Where to Watch the Oscars


The 88th Academy Awards promises to deliver on big laughs, big wins, and perhaps a few upsets. Host Chris Rock is sure to skewer big name movies stars in attendance, including nominees Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio, in a night that may finally see him take home the gold. Where will you be when the five-time nominee reigns victorious? Here are the hottest spots to celebrate Hollywood’s biggest night.

Like most parties thrown in Boystown, Sidetrack‘s Oscar viewing party will be way over-the-top. Guests are encouraged to take paparazzi-style selfies on their red carpet and Instagram them to their hearts desire, like a true celebrity would. The event will kick off with show tunes from 3 to 7 p.m. Drag Queen Dixie Lynn Cartwright and her sexy ushers will entertain during commercial breaks, and complimentary popcorn will be on hand. If a low-key Sunday is more of your scene, head on over to Lincoln Park and stop by The Warehouse for an Oscar party that’s no-frills, but still big on fun. Prizes will be awarded to those who predict the most award winners and a celebrity-themed menu will include interesting specials like Christian Bale’s Beef Braciole and Sly Stallone’s Stuffed Mushrooms. Wash it all down with Oscar-themed cocktails, half-priced bottles of wine, $3 domestic tallboys, and $6 mimosas and sangria.

If you want to pull out all of the stops and truly celebrate Oscar night like a celebrity, Nellcôte is the destination to do it. The European-inspired West Loop haunt will host its 2nd Annual Haute Oscars, a tribute to 70’s glamour and fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick, who’s muses included Elizabeth Taylor, Jacqueline Onassis, and Bianca Jagger. Dress to impress at this event, where the “Best Dressed” man and woman will be crowned. A four-course tasting menu will be served at 7 p.m., just in time for a screening of the evening’s main event.
